Will Rory McIlroy Play TaylorMade Irons in 2017?

At the 2016 HSBC Championship in Shanghai, China Rory McIlroy played a TaylorMade M1 Driver. Now that Nike is done with equipment Rory will have to pick between TaylorMade, Titleist, PXG, Srixon or Mizuno irons. Most PGA Tour golfs have a contract in which they need a certain number of clubs in the back. With a name as big as Rory one would expect the equipment provider will want 12, 13 or all 14 clubs in the bag.

There are handful of PGA Tour players that have TaylorMade woods and a TaylorMade driver yet they have different irons and a different putter. Expect to see an equipment company spend a significant amount of money on Rory to play wedges, driver, woods, irons and putter.

Note that balls tend to come with the equipment provider as well. As most golf fans know, Titleist makes the best ball, the Pro V1 or Pro V1x, which fits well with Titleist clubs. Titleist also just came out with the 917 driver and fairway woods.

With Rory having played the best golf of his career with Titleist I suspect he will go back to them. We will just have to wait and see.

As I watch more of the HSBC Championship and other fall and winter golf events I will keep an eye out for the irons and ball that Rory is using. If you notice, please comment below.
