Lesson #191 – November 30th, 2020

Today Patrick started the lesson by clearing up my angle with the practice chipping motion. I tend to get the club ahead of my right pectoral muscle and then I am all out of sync. Patrick told me to get to the “top” of the backswing with the chipping motion and stop. From there, I am to keep the clubface in line with my right pectoral or even behind it. I then turn my chest and the club follows. I am basically creating a fulcrum and turning. It does feel like there is a slight pause but that is just turning with my chest and torso. This allowed me to get into the ball much cleaner.

After that, Patrick really focused on my right hip and right knee. We are now focused on compressing into the inside of the right hip and turning around it. I have the tendency to let it sway or give. Instead, I should drive into it and it should feel somewhat hollow and there should be tension on the inside of my right leg as I turn with my upper body. Patrick physically stood behind me and held off my right hip as I turned. This helped me to get the feel for condensing or compressing into the right hip.

After twisting and turning me I hit a couple shots. Unlike last week, I hit some fantastic shots as my ball striking was on point. My right side being the stabilizer really improves my ball striking. Patrick said the goal for the next few weeks is to not only get the right knee and right hip to stabilize, but to get the left leg to not fall back as much. He moved my left quad and left knee to be more on the target line as I turned back.

Over long weekends and holidays I tend to rabbit hole and try new things. My goal is to get my lesson with Patrick, write my journal entry and then clear my mind of the golf swing. Nothing good happens when I try to overanalyze or overthink and dissect the golf swing. That is why I have put my trust in Patrick. He knows much more than I ever will about the golf swing. Tomorrow is going to be very cold so it should be an interesting lesson.
