Lesson #197 – December 9th, 2020

Today was a downswing day at PKU. Patrick really focused on me re-establishing my left knee and left glute in the downswing. I have a bad habit of not re-establishing my lower left side which causes inconsistencies with ball striking. I really need to get my left knee to be firm and just inside where my left toes are. I should also feel some pressure on my left glute when I do this. Only then should I really drive with my right obliques.

Once my right obliques turn I am then to make certain my hands and arms stay back while my right lats turn my chest under and through the ball. Patrick really has to work with me on this part as I always want to lead with my hands. When Patrick turns my chest under and through my left elbow rolls down towards the ball and I have to continue to turn with my core and not lift with my shoulders or arms.

This process is very difficult for me as I am in the early stages of learning contact. I am also just now able to complete the backswing without using my right shoulder or right lat. When Patrick kneads my right lat going back, I can feel my shoulders getting softer and I can turn under with my left side.

By the end of the lesson I was starting to strike the ball pretty well but I have no delusions of grandeur that I am going to continue the good ball striking. Until I get my right lat and my right side out of the backswing, I am going to be a very inconsistent ball striker.

As always, there are plenty of stretching exercises to do to make myself a better golfer.
