Lesson #200 – December 15th, 2020

After a fun weekend in Kitty Hawk we had to cancel Monday’s lesson because of it raining and being cold. Tuesday was a backswing day at PKU and we saw a lot of little things come together today. I have been working on my hands staying together (with my grip) as I start to get depth on my backswing. In the past, to get deeper I would pull my hands apart which meant I was pulling with my right arm.

Now, when I get halfway back on my backswing I make certain my hands stay together which forces me to turn with my left side. Who knew more depth would be created by simply keeping my right hand firmly attached to my left thumb?

Patrick continues to get my shoulder turn deeper and deeper and I am starting to feel the circle of the backswing get more polished. As I keep my posture and hip bend I can really feel the club staying in the middle of my chest and turning around my body. I hit some really good shots during my lesson.

Patrick and I were also chatting with YE Yang’s caddie during my lesson as he was there to meet with Patrick. It was interesting to hear some of his stories about Kevin Streelman, Tom Herman, Matt Kuchar and others. It was also fun to see Patrick reminisce about his days working with tour pros and being on tour.

After my lesson I played 9 holes. I had the most consistent ball striking 9 holes since the swing change. This was the first time I didn’t go into a little bit of a tailspin for a few holes. I hit one bad shot on #7 and followed it up with a fantastic shot. If I can keep my grip solid (no separation of the hands) and finish the turn with my left lat, I hit the ball extremely well. I am coming from a place I never have before so there is still a trust factor to gain but I hit some of the best shots of my life during the 9 holes at Knights Play on 12/15.
