Lesson #204 – December 23rd, 2020

This was my last lesson before the holiday break. Patrick really worked on my backswing. Something that just “clicked” in the middle of the lesson was my left lat feeling as if it is going straight back away from the target. This only happened because Patrick pointed out that my posture at address had gotten lazy. He really stressed pushing my chest out. When I have my chest out and my upper body posture is great, there is room for the body to turn under the arms. When I do it, it feels as if my left lat is simply driving down the target line away from the target.

If I can really get my left side to stay ahead of my hands my right side feels extremely hollow and I can even feel depth in my lower right side. Patrick was joking and said, “that is where you are going to live”. He really twisted me up today as I would feel the space to drive back and under, my lower right side would be hollow and he would hold me at the top and stretch out my right shoulder. There were times when he held me in this position for 30 seconds. My upper right side really needs to get soft but the only way to do that is by stretching it out.

Reny came and hit balls in the station behind me. He and Patrick were joking and talking about playing professionally. It was good because it made Patrick really focus on stretching me out with the backswing rather than anything else. My main focus for the next few days will be to make sure my chest is high and my shoulders are relaxed and back at the setup. When I do this, I can then get into my left thoracic while feeling my lower right side being hollow.

Patrick was extremely happy with the depth of my backswing and the overall feel. Now, I have to continue to work on flexibility over the holiday and make sure I don’t obsess about things I really don’t even understand.
