Lesson #208 – January 6th, 2021

Today was a very interesting lesson at PKU. I had not hit balls or practiced much over the New Years holiday and I spent a few days on the OBX. My practice chipping motion suffered a little bit and my ball striking was definitely off. Patrick did not mention anything overly wrong but I know I wasn’t rotating my chest through impact on the chipping motion.

On the backswing Patrick worked on keeping my left (front hip) more bent over and in good posture for longer. I want to allow my left side to kind of lift on the take away and we really want that to maintain its angle. It feels restrictive but I know it will end up being very important in the long run.

We also worked a lot on my upper right side broadening as we get to the top of the backswing. To me, it feels like steep to flat with my shoulders on the backswing. When I really keep the left hip angle better, the first part of the backswing feels very steep from my shoulder plan. As we are getting to the top of the backswing, Patrick is really working on my right side so my right elbow ends up inside my right shoulder. Once again, to me, this feels flat but I know it is not as my spine angle is still maintained.

I definitely did not hit the ball all that well today but Patrick did not seem overly concerned. I think today was more of a timing day to give myself much more time on the backswing which will in turn mean more patience on the downswing.
