Lesson #210 – January 11th, 2021

Today Patrick added to major elements and both had to do with my posture. He made my right lat stand up taller at address. I have the habit of really dropping my right shoulder which in turn causes my right lat to roll my right shoulder forward. Patrick pushed up on my right lat which makes me feel like my body is actually pointed more towards the target. I know I don’t need to overdue this but it does feel like my right side is longer.

Patrick also wants me to keep the hip angle with my left hip being bent over. As soon as I take the club away, I stand up. If I can keep the left hip bent over and maintain my spine angle, I feel the circle of the golf swing around my body much more.

We are still working on turning without a club in my hand by holding my left knee on the target line which softens the right side as we get closer to the top of the backswing. This definitely helps when I put a club in my hand and work on my backswing.

I feel as if we are getting closer and closer to a true backswing but with every improvement we have to focus on something else that falls apart. Eventually we will get it all squared away.

I played 9 holes after the lesson today and hit some fantastic shots. If I can just allow my body time to turn I hit the ball well. When I don’t give myself time with the take away and in the middle of the backswing, I end up hitting it poorly. It really is going to take a lot of hard work on the course to give my body time to turn and create the backswing.
