Lesson #214 – January 15th, 2021

As soon as I arrived at Knight’s Play I knew we only had about 20-30 minutes before the rain storm rolled in. It was amazing weather as it was the calm before the storm but we had to get our work in. Patrick worked on my backswing without a club in my hands. With my arms across my chest, he turned me with my core and my upper lats being putty. He is now starting to work on my left knee having distance between my right knee as I approach the top of the backswing.

We really didn’t work on downswing at all as we focused mainly on the backswing. I did a few practice swings with a club in my hand and then ripped five amazing shots. I now understand what Patrick talked about when he mentioned your misses would be a much smaller dispersion. When I miss it, it is about 2-3 yards left or right and that’s about it. When I do get short on my backswing, I pull it about 5-10 yards left, but that is to be expected.

Patrick also added a finishing layer to the practice chipping motion. After I hit the ball, my right side should be soft and my lower right obliques and even my right glutes should move my body through impact and to the top. My elbows are inside my shoulders and the pressure is on the shin of my right leg. Patrick is very pleased that I can get to this spot now.

We are now seeing huge strides with every lesson. Now the focus is going to be on keeping my spine angle while I turn with my core and my upper lats are putty. The longer I can maintain my spine angle, the more consistent my ball striking is going to be.
