Lesson #217 – January 20th, 2021

After hitting the ball so well over the last few days, today was a step back in terms of ball striking. We are still working on the spin angle but Patrick added my right leg staying stable and my right knee being more pointed at the target throughout the backswing. He basically put his knee behind my right knee as I turned so it would stay “forward”. When doing this, I have to get the feel for the turn with my lower body not sliding at all. This is difficult as of today.

We worked a lot on the turn without the club. I am getting more and more flexible through and after impact which is a good thing. As with many of my issues in the past, when I pick up the club I want to use my arms. I use them much less now than I did months ago but I still want to use my arms. I can tell because my left arm straightens and then my right arm pulls with the elbow. Once again, not as bad as in the past but still something I need to fix. As my core gains more strength for my posture I won’t try to rely on my arms.

I didn’t hit a truly great shot today, but that is ok. There are going to be days like this along the way until the spring. Instead of going down the rabbit hole I simply need to take the club out of my hand and turn with my body while making certain my elbows fold in on both the backswing and the downswing.
