Lesson #220 – January 26th, 2021

Today was the first lesson of the week as Monday was rained out. We talked about my left hip wanting to pull though impact rather than sitting into that hip and driving under with the right side. On my practice chipping motion I really need to work on soft knees and sitting into the left hip rather than pulling with it. I was thinking about it so much that I actually hit some bad chips with the practice chipping motion but I feel more comfortable with the overall setup now.

Patrick twisted me up without a club and I have gotten much better with my left side being firm and my right side being soft and moving through impact. I can get to the top of the swing much easier now. It has gotten to the point where I don’t need to breathe heavy throughout the entire swing these days.

With a club in my hand Patrick held my hands away from my body and told me to turn with my core. Wow, did this make a difference. It is unbelievable how much room I need to create with my body turning and my hands staying behind my chest and belly button. Of course, as soon as we did this I started hitting behind the ball again. This is the ongoing process. Patrick increases my depth and I hit behind the ball because my timing is off. Welcome to PKU.

I did hit some really good shots during the lesson and decided to play 9 holes at Knight’s Play since there was no one out there. I hit some of the best shots of my life and I hit some heavy shots, as to be expected. I am still trying to get tremendous depth with my body while out on the course but this is a process. I have plenty of time though as the courses are extremely wet these days.

Something else unique is once I get to the top with my body and Patrick holding my hands behind my core on the turn, I can feel the ability to hinge the wrists and really get the “snap” on the transition from the top into the downswing. I don’t understand it completely, but started feeling it for the first time today. I know it has to do with my core and lats turning and the fact that I am not lifting with my arms as much. Nothing to think too much about though.
