Lesson #235 – March 2nd, 2021

Today was a backswing day at PKU and an interesting one at that. I had a little muscle spasm in my back that I didn’t even feel. Patrick was very concerned as it looked like a growth on my right lat. What was weird is the fact that I didn’t feel it at all. By the end of the lesson it subsided.

We really focused on the left knee resisting and the right crease remaining. Patrick is really turning me a lot now. In fact, the senior lady in the pro shop at Knight’s Play said, “that is the furthest I’ve ever seen someone turn.” While that is not true, I definitely have a much bigger shoulder turn than I’ve ever had in my life.

I went out and played 18 and had a fatal flaw. I tried to play a little bit longer distance of 135 and got quick. My arms and shoulders were greatly outracing my body and I was hitting everything about 10-15 yards left. I was hitting it great, I was just way too quick with the hands. I need to really work on the body staying way ahead of the hands on the take away and backswing. This is something I am going to ask Patrick to focus on for the next few weeks.

I feel as if I am hitting it very good, but sometimes my hands really want to lift the club and get the swing started. I need to take a lesson from Dustin Johnson and lag the hands while the core starts the backswing. I am going to do a ton of exercises with the elastic band behind my head with my core starting the backswing without moving my arms or hands.
