Lesson #241 – March 10th, 2021

It was a downswing day at PKU and we really worked on the left shoulder and left nipple staying low through impact. A new layer Patrick added on the backswing was holding my head stable while my body turned. While we did not talk about this, it is something I will have to work on in the future. My head falls back on the backswing and then wants to lift right at impact and after impact to look for the ball. This is the exact opposite of what should happen. It should stay stable on the way back and remain down at impact until the body gets through the ball.

My backswing is getting better and better with my lower right side now pulling and and driving the start of the downswing. Then, I have to go very slow and allow my chest to broaden and my left nipple to stay low and basically spin. I have the habit of using my lower right side to start the downswing and then lifting my left shoulder. Instead, the left shoulder stays low and the left nipple spins under and through. The feel for me is that the left nipple is going under the left shoulder and my shoulders should feel extremely flat. I know they are not, but that is the feel for me right now.

Patrick was very pleased with the work as we really focused on going slow with the downswing and follow through. I am starting to hit the ball better and better and Patrick even mentioned starting hitting long irons soon. If I can keep my right shoulder and right nipple low on the backswing and my left shoulder and left nipple low on the downswing I have become a great ball striker.

I also really need to focus on my grip with each and every swing. Patrick said it is an extension of the setup so there is no reason to rush it. It is amazing how slow and methodical I am with my grip and setup now as opposed to in the past. I am sure it is not really that, it just feels very slow to me compared to where I came from.
