Lesson #255 – April 8th, 2021

Today was another downswing day at PKU. We are really progressing quickly now as my flexibility and muscle memory are getting to the point where Patrick can basically do what he wants to with my body. We really focused on the left shoulder staying passive on the downswing while the right lat needs to drive into it. Patrick would grab the top of my right shoulder and hold it and encourage me to drive with my right lat on the downswing.

Other than that, Patrick is just doing some tweaks here and there. He is trying to soften my left knee on the downswing and through the follow through. He is trying to broaden my shoulders at the top of the backswing and is putting my head in the correct position throughout the entire swing.

I am absolutely destroying my 7 iron now. If I can feel the crease with my right side and can keep the angle with my right hip I hit my 7 iron about 190 yards on the fly. When I lose that right hip or don’t feel the hollowness in the right hip I get quick and end up pulling my shots about 10 yards left, but still crushing it.

There was one shot I hit where Patrick said, “that is, by far, the best shot you’ve ever hit. I need 1000 more of those and we are ready.” So, just 1000 more out of the middle of the club face and compressed and we are good to go. Honestly, I hit about 10 shots today with my 7 iron that went further than I used to hit my 5 wood.

After my lesson I went and watched my Thursday Night league team at Hope Valley. What I realized is that golf for them is a series of fortunate events meaning that if things go well they par a hole and if they don’t, they are clueless. Guys that think they are 2 and 3 handicaps can only hit three or four greens per 9. It is simply crazy.
