Lesson #259 – April 15th, 2021

This was my last lesson before my trip to Costa Rica. We continue to really work on the backswing but added in some downswing today. What I learned is that I actually have a good swing but I have to stay skinny throughout the entire swing. As I mentioned in previous lessons, the longer I stay skinny in the backswing the better I hit the ball. Well, now I know I have to stay skinny throughout the entire swing.

When I release and get fat before impact I come across and pull it hard left. Months ago, when I was playing with Jacob, I remember feeling the release of air and being fat at impact and crushing the ball but left. Now I understand that I have to keep that air sucked in and stay skinny all the way through impact to hit the ball well.

At the end of my lesson I ended up shanking the ball with the practice chipping motion. My hands and left arm were getting way too active and trying to get the club to the ball rather than letting rotation do it. I could not go to Costa Rica after chipping shanks so I went to UNC Finley to soften and relax my left arm.

I ended up having my best ball striking range session ever. I fixed my left arm and hands being active with the chipping motion and then I tried to stay skinny throughout the entire swing with my right nipple staying low throughout the backswing. I absolutely crushed it. I was hitting my 6 iron about 190 yards and it was fantastic. There are still times I get close to impact and expand and release the air and pull it left. I have to work on staying skinny all the way through and well past impact.

Time to head to Costa Rica for a week.
