Lesson #266 – April 30th, 2021

This was one of my worst ball striking weeks in a very long time. It is somewhat depressing as I would like to be playing in May as I mentioned in previous journal entries. I don’t see how that is any way possible at this point. I am basically shanking the ball these days.

Anyway, it was another downswing day and we worked on depth in the backswing. Something I am terrible at is getting my left lat to get “high” on the backswing. Patrick constantly pulls my left lat up as we get deeper into the backswing. I cannot do it by myself though. It is something I will need to work on from a stretching standpoint. The left lat needs to be high but the spine angle needs to stay the same. Meaning, my stomach should be sucked in, my hips should be back and bent yet I should turn and raise my left lat. This is super hard for me.

We did do some impact bag work and I can feel where power comes from but I cannot get to that point in the downswing. I am very shallow and short in the backswing which causes me to hit the ball fat, off the toe or shank it. Who knows when I am going to actually hit the driver and longer irons. It seems like a never ending battle. Sigh.
