Lesson #308 – August 11th, 2021

After almost two weeks of no lessons it was time to get back to the grind. I went to UNC Finley last night and ended up hitting many of my straight right shots. Patrick explained to me that my backswing was getting fast again and I start my downswing pulling with my left hip. We spent time slowing down the backswing. I really need to go super slow after my take away. If I don’t go super slow I start pulling and everything goes haywire.

After addressing that, Patrick explained to me that if I pull from the top of the backswing the shot goes straight right. If I pull halfway down on the backswing I do the checkmark and hit it a little bit fat. If I can delay speed until as late as possible I hit it a little bit left but very well.

We worked hard on being slow after the take away and really slowing down the transition and the downswing. We also spent some time on the crease on the left side. Patrick wants me to keep 60% of my weight on my left side on the three quarters swings. This makes a lot of difference as before I had about 20% of my weight on my left side. This caused me to want to get my weight back on the downswing and I pulled with the left hip.

There is always going to be the issue of me pulling with my left side and my legs simply because my legs are strong. That said, the goal is to stabilize with the left leg and create the crease. It is going to take a lot of time to get used to this, but I did hit some better shots by the end of the lesson. It is over 100 degree heat index in mid August so just staying cool is a challenge.
