An Attempt to Hit the White Ball Straight

Category: Full Swing (page 3 of 6)

Should You Be on Your Toes, Heels or the Balls of Your Feet in the Golf Swing?

Upon going through an entire swing change, the first step is often posture and the feel of your feet and legs when setting up to the golf ball. So, where should your weight be when you set up to the ball? We have all seen plenty of YouTube videos talking about keeping your feet flat and not lifting up the heels on your backswing. Does this mean you should have the weight on your heels or in the middle of your feet?

Should I Dip My Head When Hitting a Driver or Fairway Woods?

One of the hardest things to do for amateur golfers is to get power with a full swing while not dipping or dropping one’s head. For years, Tiger Woods fought the problem of dipping his head with his driver swing. If you can time it just right, it gives you amazing power but if you get caught at the top of your backswing it is going to cause you to miss a ton of fairways. So, should you dip your head when you come down with your driver swing?

Why Do I Heel My Driver But Not My 3 or 5 Wood?

Heeling the driver is something I have grown very accustomed to. Unfortunately, there are about two or three rounds a month in which I cannot get the ball in the middle of the club face and I hit a lazy fade that ends up only going about 220 yards. It is painful to play under these conditions as my home golf course can play extremely long. If you are only hitting a driver 220 yards on a 450 yard par 4 life can be extremely difficult. So, why is this the case?

What Irons Does Henrik Stenson Play – How Does He Hit Them So Crisp?

Henrik Stenson is one of the best iron “strikers” on the PGA Tour. His skill was on display in the 2016 Open Championship where he put on a clinic against Phil Mickelson. Many amateur and scratch golfers would love to strike their irons as well as Henrik does. So, how does he do it and what irons does he hit?

If I Can’t Draw a Driver, Should I Use a Regular or Women’s Shaft?

I am one of the few people that can admit they cannot hit a draw with a stiff shaft on a driver. I am not proud. I gladly play with a women’s driver and shoot in the 70s. I tried my damndest to figure out how to hit a draw with a stiff shafted driver and it would never turn over. One day, I was playing with a lovely young lady and decided to hit her driver. It was a nice five yard draw that went a mile. I was convinced.

Why Are My Irons Off the Toe and to the Right?

Time and again I fight the battle of the toed iron that squirts right. This is something I have fought for several months and keeps coming back. Unfortunately, it looks like an issue I will continue to have moving forward. That said, have the “toe ball” that pushes right is much better than having the hosel rocket that quickly turns into the “s” word. We won’t talk about that.

How Far Should My 60 Degree Wedge Go?

This is a question I get asked all the time by those first picking up the game of golf. Sadly, almost all new golfers want to hit the ball further rather than more accurate. They want to be able to hit a 60 degree wedge 125 yards like some of the pros. This is not ideal. You will want to hit your 60 degree wedge between 75 and 90 yards to score well. If you are hitting it over 100 yards you are swinging too hard. Here is a great 60 degree wedge if you want to upgrade to get the most optimal distance and spin.

Paige Spiranac Chive Golf Swing After Interview

Yeah, who would have ever guessed this young woman would get popular. Interestingly, she tee’d it up out of the high grass in front of The Chive headquarters. You must listen to the interview, it is fantastic.

Chris Paul’s Driver Golf Swing

Well, this looks all too familiar. Let’s compare Chris Paul (CP3) and Jesse Wojdylo:

We both take it back about three quarters of the way and follow through a little bit off balance. Hell, you would think we were brothers. Maybe I need to get out on the course with one of the best point guards in the NBA.

Mark Thomas (NC State) Golf Swing

So, over the last several months I have become good friends with former radio personality and NFL tight end Mark Thomas. The first time I played with Mark I saw him hit a 325 yard bomb off the first tee at Heritage Golf Course. Since then I have seen him drill some drives that easily went over 400 yards (wind aided). Anyone that thinks an amateur cannot consistently hit a 300 yard drive in the fairway has never seen Mark Thomas play. Here are a handful of his swings;
